miles of pristine
beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, centered on Daytona Beach, the
"World’s
Most Famous Beach". The freshwater lakes and rivers of Volusia County
offer
every type of water sport from boating, fishing, water skiing, jet
skiing
to swimming. The bass fishing is excellent and the saltwater sport
fishing
in the Atlantic Ocean is extraordinary.
The
County is home to the
Halifax, Tomoka
and Indian Rivers. Countless recreational lakes and streams dot the
area.
Boating
The Atlantic
Ocean, the
navigable Ponce
Inlet (providing access to the Intracoastal Waterway), the St. Johns
River,
the Tomoka River, Spruce Creek and numerous lakes provide a wide
variety
of options for sail and power boats. In 1999, there were 23,118
recreational
boats registered in Volusia County.
Fishing
Deep sea,
pier, surf, river
and freshwater
fishing are all popular in Volusia County. Several fishing tournaments
are held throughout each year. A $14.00 (resident) license is required
for freshwater fishing in Volusia County. A non-resident freshwater
license
can be purchased for 3 days, 7 days, or a full year at $7, $17, and $32
respectively. The State issues Saltwater Licenses for one year, which
cost
$13.00 for residents or in 3 day, 7 day, or full year increments for
non-residents,
which cost $6.50, $16.50, and $31.50 respectively.
